For many men and women, diet and exercise alone may not be the complete solution for handling excess skin and fat around their midsection. In fact, while the skin can keep some of its elasticity, no amount of muscle toning or fat burning can return skin that’s been stretched past its limits. People who have lost 100 pounds or more or women who have had difficult pregnancies know what it may feel like to have overstretched skin around their midsections. With a tummy tuck, Dr Turner is able to take away this excess skin and give you a toned silhouette. The procedure works by removing the extra skin and fat from around the stomach. Then for women who were pregnant, she will repair the diastasis recti. The diastasis recti are stomach muscles that can separate and remain separated after childbirth. However, with a tummy tuck, Dr Turner and her world-class team are able to create a tighter, more taut abdomen for you.

Personal Consultation on Harley Street
After you schedule your personal consultation, you will come to our Harley Street office. Here, we will escort you into your own private consultation room. We will check your vitals as well as go over your medical history. It is important at this step in the process to get an overarching sense of what your story is and what your aesthetic goals are for your physique. This will help gather a good impression of how exactly our services can best be tailored to treat your individual needs. Next, we will examine your abdominal region, noting the current state of the skin and fat deposits. Finally, if a tummy tuck is elected as the best approach to acquire your desired results then a specific type of tummy tuck will be chosen. Before you leave we will give you a list of preparatory steps that should be adhered to while you wait for your tummy tuck date.
To best prepare for your tummy tuck, it will be necessary to follow any individual instructions given to you during your consultation as these are specific to you. It is also important to:
- Give up smoking a few weeks before your surgery and the entire duration of your recovery. Nicotine is known to constrict blood flow which can greatly affect surgery and healing.
- Avoid blood-thinning medications such as aspirin or ibuprofen as these can increase bleeding during surgery.
- Schedule a ride home as you will not be able to drive and take care of yourself after your surgery.
During your consultation, we will go over which tummy tuck approach is best for you and your goals. The types of tummy tucks include:
Full Tummy Tuck
As the most common tummy tuck, a full tummy tuck is where an incision is made from the left hip to the right hip. The incision will be made low enough to be hidden beneath clothes. The underlying muscles will then be tightened to create a smoother, flatter abdominal profile. Here, if more fat is needed to be extracted then liposuction may be utilized. Next the skin will be re-draped. The belly button will be repositioned on the stomach to show an aesthetically pleasing, flatter belly. Then, excess skin will be removed and the incision will be closed with sutures or stitches.
Mini Tummy Tuck
Ideal for patients with only small to moderate amounts of unwanted skin. A mini tummy tuck is performed with a smaller incision than a full tummy tuck. The excess skin and loose muscles below the button will be addressed with this technique. The abdominal muscles will be tightened and the belly button is left unaltered.
Extended Tummy Tuck
Particularly after weight loss surgery, patients will have significant excess skin around the waist that may be too much for a full tummy tuck to address. With an extended tummy tuck, a larger incision will be made to contour the upper hips and around the abdomen wall. A large incision is used to ensure the skin and fat tissue don’t bunch or fold over the sutures. For the love handles, liposuction will be utilized.
Circumferential Tummy Tuck/Lower Body Lift
This approach is usually reserved for patients who have just gone through dramatic weight loss and have excess skin around their waist, thighs, and buttocks. An incision is made around the entire abdomen. The skin will then be tightened above and below the incision line. While it can achieve all the benefits of a tummy tuck (firmer, flatter belly) it can also tighten up the appearance of your hips, thighs, and buttocks.
It is recommended to expect between 2-6 weeks of downtime before you can return to strenuous activity and exercise. We also advise you to have someone to help you during the first week. You can expect to have swelling, tenderness, and bruising around the treated areas for the first few weeks. After about 6 weeks you will begin to notice the swelling and bruising has significantly subsided and your results are flourishing more and more each day.
After about 3 months, the swelling should have completely subsided. When you look in the mirror a sudden wave of newly found confidence washes over you. Finally, you are no longer hesitant when wearing a swimsuit or displaying your belly. That’s because your tummy is smoother, firmer, and more toned! The excess skin and fatty tissue are a thing of the past. Now, you can feel more like you – more confident in yourself and how you look!
